In addition to programs like these, our focus for 2009 will be the creation of a new home for MoonTree. Planning continues with architects and builders to create an inviting, inspirational, and environmentally responsible space. We hope to make this project an open, inviting, learning opportunity for the community. Check back for updates to see how you can get involved.

Create Raku Pottery
October 17 - 18, 2009 (Saturday, 10:00 am - Sunday, 5:00 pm)
Participate in the playfulness of creating with earthen clay. Learn how to form shapes by wedging, texturing, joining, pinching, and rolling in preparation for the first (bisque) firing of the clay. Participants will come away with approximately five small ceramic creations and discover the technique of raku firing. Originating in Japan, raku firing produces rich texture and color when heat and smoke interact in the absence of oxygen. The final raku firing produces unusual metal flashing in the glazes along with crackle effects. Results are difficult to predict or duplicate. These creations will be one of a kind decorative pieces and should not be utilized for food. No previous clay experience is necessary. Only pieces from October 17-18 workshop will be fired. Raku firing will take place outside. This program is co-sponsored by Lindenwood and MoonTree Community. MoonTree is a community of people who share a common interest in exploring the issues of our personal health, spirituality, and creativity.
Facilitator: Becki Moffett-Moore, BFA has led and taught many clay workshops and retreats. She has also participated in various galleries and fine art shows. She is a member of MoonTree Community.
